Any parent knows that the age range of 5 to 12 years (kindergarten to adolescence) is a period filled with many changes. One major change for children in this age group is the amount of time spent away from home. Their immediate environment has been expanded from the home to the school and a new social circle evolves. New territory comes with new challenges.
Our discussion question for week 5...what environmental and social influences can cause injury, illness or death in school-aged children? What is the prevalence of the problem? What could better be done to minimize the prevalence of injury, illness and death? Who is responsible to make the changes? Personal experiences welcome. What types of illnesses and injury and are seen in this age group as related to the impact of social and environmental influences?
