Question: Theresa just turned 21 years old and is no longer in public school, nor does her father receive special support payments for her anymore. She has multiple and profound developmental challenges. She would like to live independently, but she cannot manage her own finances (bills, taxes, banking, etc.). She cannot remember to do basic chores, such as dishes, cleaning, and laundry and has difficulty shopping for food independently. She has required a lot of supervision for hygiene and taking public transport. Her father, Ingram, is 55 and working full-time as a labourer. He wants to give his child some freedom and has difficulty keeping her at home because of the cost of constant home care. Her social worker has found her supervised/ adapted living, where a worker is present at all times, and she would be offered life skills training. Theresa is excited about this but does not want her father to manage her finances. She wants complete independence.
