Rory Horner (2020) argues that using the term "international development" to frame 21st century that is characterized by interconnected globalized capitalism, the challenge of sustainable development, as well as the blurring of North South boundaries is increasingly ill-fitting. While the term global development is increasingly employed, and appears more suited, it carries too many different implicit meanings that makes it not better.
