You are notified about a person diagnosed with an active tuberculosis case. He has come to the Health Department for a chest x-ray as his PPD was positive. He has recently traveled to this city from another state by plane. He is staying with a local family in a small home. There are 4 adults and 3 school-age children in the home in addition to him. He is actively coughing and not taking any precautions while coughing.

What are your priorities at this interview and appointment? How will you decide who needs testing for TB exposure and when? What questions will elicit this information? What specific education would you provide? Medication adherence is critical in TB treatment- what can you do to facilitate this? How will you and your colleagues evaluate the outcomes?
