Social Psychology Activity:

What are typical norm behaviors in our culture and society? When someone is not behaving with in the social norms, do you look, react and respond? This activity requires you to break from traditional norms and evaluate the response of others.

Directions: Follow the steps listed.

1. Pick a behavior that deviates from the norm, do not break the law or cause harm to yourself or others.

2. You may not select a behavior or experience you have already done; it must be a new behavior that you will report in writing and to the class.

3. Engage in the behavior and note the reactions of others. You may tell them that this is an experiment activity for your psychology class after you exhibit the socially inappropriate behavior.

4. Write a brief description of the experience. (1-2 pages typed; 12 point font; double spaced).

a. What was your behavior and why it is considered a deviation from the norm.
b. Where and when did you exhibit the behavior?
c. What were the responses of others?
d. How did you feel when doing the behavior? Why?
