For this week's discussion board, the focus will be on the Acculturation Assessment, Racial/Cultural Identity Development Model (R/CID), and "A Class Divided." As part of the learning for this week, you will view the following two video links: https://vimeo.com/130610063 andhttps://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/class-divided/. The first video is about 2 hours and 15 minutes and the second video is about one hour. It is recommended that you watch "A Class Divided" first.
The question for this week is the following: from the three topics presented in the videos for this week Acculturation Assessment, R/CID, and/or "A Class Divided," what are the top three elements that were significant for you? Also share why these elements were significant for you. You may discuss elements from one topic (three elements from R/CID or others), three elements from two topics (two elements from Acculturation Assessment, one from "A Class Divided" as an example) or one element from each topic. Feel free to write it out as you'd like. The above question will be answered for the first post. The second post will be a "free form" discussion on what someone else shared in their first post.
For this week's discussion board, here are the posting guidelines for the week: two postings with the first one being a minimum of 300 words and a maximum of 400 words (due Thursday) and the second posting will have a 150 minimum word count (due Saturday). For the second post, you are welcome to share more than 150 words especially if you found someone's initial post of significant interest for you. There are no other posting guidelines (for example, no references/citations) as this week's discussion board will be more free flowing; however, do make sure that postings are focused.
Side note: for the Vimeo video, this is a presentation I normally give in this course; however, I was unable to conduct this presentation due to scheduling matters. I hope that you will be able to gain some things from the video despite not coming together for this information. You will get to hear the thoughts/reactions of others of the material. In many respects, the thoughts/reactions are similar each year as the material makes for rich discussion; however, it is also different due to the different perspectives that people bring.
