Instructions:

For each example given:

Identify and write what type of learning is being demonstrated: classical conditioning or operant conditioning.

In addition:

  • If it is an example of classical conditioning identify and write the: unconditioned stimulus (US), the unconditioned response (UR), the conditioned stimulus (CS), and the conditioned response (CR).
  • If the example is operant conditioning identify and write if it is: positive reinforcement (PR), negative reinforcement (NR), positive punishment (PP), or negative punishment (NP).

Here are some helpful strategies to use when working on this activity:

Ask yourself, is the behavior changing involuntary (classical conditioning) or voluntary (operant conditioning)?

If the example is classical conditioning what are the unconditioned stimulus (US), the unconditioned response (UR), the conditioned stimulus (CS), and the conditioned response (CR)?

If the example is operant conditioning consider these questions:

  1. What behavior is changing?
  2. Is the behavior increasing (reinforcement) or decreasing (punishment)?
  3. Is something being added to the person's experience (positive) or being taken away (negative)?
