Problem
Kalina is a 13-year-old Aboriginal young woman who has started attending your Youth Centre Drop In space after school. Kalina regularly wears large baggy clothes and prefers to blend into the background. You notice that Kalina will often withdraw from the group when the Youth Centre becomes a bit loud and that she regularly flinches at sudden movements and loud noises.
Kalina's mother does not appear to be a part of Kalina's life. All Kalina has ever mentioned about her mother is that she is 'gone'.
Kalina lives with her father Michael.
Lately you've noticed a change in Kalina's behaviour, she seems a lot quieter than usual and doesn't seem to converse with her friends anymore. She sits by herself and prefers to do solo activities where she doesn't need to engage with anyone. You also begin to notice that when you put food out for the Young People, Kalina tends to slip food into her pockets or her school bag when no one is looking. Although it has been very hot recently, Kalina does not remove her heavy jumper or scarf and will not respond when asked about her clothing choices.
You decide to speak with one of your colleagues, who indicates that it's possible that Kalina isn't ok, but says that unless Kalina tells you what's wrong there isn't anything that you could or should do. The colleague also gives you some background information regarding Kalina that they have heard from their boyfriend who is really good friends with Kalina's Dad. Get the instant assignment help.
The colleague tells you that according to their boyfriend Kalina has been taking drugs for the past year mainly smoking pot, but has recently started smoking ice. Apparently Kalina has started wearing baggy clothes to hide the weight loss that has occurred due to her ice habit. Your colleague also indicates that they wonder if the reason Kalina is taking food is so she looks like she's eating and that they have found it difficult to like Kalina because their boyfriend speaks so highly of Kalina's father, and Kalina sounds like she's a real handful at home.
