Response to Discussion Question

In reference to Developing a Tabletop Training Exercise for my Final Project Palacios, TX Community?

My team will take a methodical approach to developing a simulated hybrid table top training exercise, to better prepare the virtual community of Palacios, TX in terms of mitigating, responding to, and recovering from a category 5 flooding incident in the standard metropolitan statistical area (SMSA) of Palacio, TX. (Laureate Education, 2013c; Cityof palacios, n.d.)

What are the Primary Training Objectives?

One of the main training objectives is to uncover and correct deficiencies in our emergency response plans before the actual incident as oppose to afterwards, (Laureate Education, 2013c). After conducting a series of planning meetings with Palacios TX, officials, and public safety personnel in the surrounding areas, (Laureate Education, 2013c; Cityof palacios, n.d.). Will conduct a tabletop exercise designed to prevent, mitigate, and recovery from a flood or other water-related disasters, (Laureate Education, 2013c; Cityof palacios, n.d.).

One of the tools we plan to use is the military decision making process (MDMP) (Au.Af. Mil, n.d.). This is a great tool for war gaming and conducting table top exercise on flooding/water-hazards types of disaster's, (Laureate Education, 2013c; AU.Af.Mil, n.d.). The exercise will consist of table top replica of the city and surrounding areas of Palacios, TX, (Laureate Education, 2013c; Cityof palacios, n.d.).

The key players are as follows; (1) Emergency management response team of the city and standard metropolitan statistical area (SMSA) of Palacios, (2) The police and fire chiefs, along with other city leaders, (3) Non-profit's like the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and similar supporting agencies, (4) Transportation organizations, trucking, buses, and airports in the SMSA, of Palacios, TX, (5) Various churches, sheltering facilities, and large venues that might be employed to houses large groups of people who might be victims of a flooding disasters, (6) Hospitals, mental health professional and other allied healthcare clinicians, (7) FEMA and local, state, and other funding sources(Laureate Education, 2013c; Cityof palacios, n.d. , Roberts, 2006).

A study by Gourley et al. (2014) "on evaluation of the past, present, and future tools for radar-based flash-flood prediction," (p.1377) offered some superb suggestions on mitigation measures and preparedness about flooding and hydrological emergencies. This was a great discussion question and I will be looking forward to reading and responding to your posts.
