Assignment Task Details
This assessment has two parts:
Part A: Conversation with a mentor
Find a mentor-an early childhood educator in a leadership position. This could be a Room Leader, Director, 2IC, Centre Manager, Area Manager, Early Childhood Teacher, or your own lecturer/Unit Convenor in ECE6014.
Prepare the questions you will ask. The questions on the page are a guide; feel free to change them. A minimum of 6 questions is needed.

Part B: Presentation
Create a presentation that includes the position of the person you interviewed, what you learned, and how it connects to your future practice.
Use reflection questions as a guide to ensure you meet the criteria in the rubric.
Create a 5-minute presentation.
The presentation must include your own voice as part of the audio content. It should be a visual presentation, such as a PowerPoint that you speak over.
Submit your presentation, transcript, and reference list (two resources from the unit must be included) to the Assessment 1 Dropbox in VU Collaborate.

Task Understanding:
Read instructions carefully. Review the Checklist and Marking Rubric.
Preparing the Interview:
Find a mentor in a leadership role (Room Leader, Director, 2IC, Centre Manager, Lecturer). Prepare at least 6 questions. Example questions include:
What is your image of the teacher?
How do you see your role as an administrator in an early childhood setting?
How do you support your community?
What jobs do you do as an early childhood teacher?
What are the most important priority areas?

Conduct the Interview:
Explain the goal to your mentor. Listen actively, take clear notes, record details only with permission. The interview should last about 30-45 minutes.
Post-interview Reflection:
Identify key takeaways, agreements, disagreements, surprises, and insights inspiring your future practice.
Gather Supporting Evidence:
Collect relevant materials. Evaluate credibility, authorship purpose, approach, and content. Make note of how sources shape your vision for leadership in early childhood.
Preparing the Presentation Transcript:
Write your transcript for presentation in Cadmus, including:
Mentor's role and background
Main points from the conversation
Your personal reflections
Influence on your future practice
Connections to two unit readings with references
Submit Presentation Transcript:
Upload to Cadmus and verify submission confirmation.
Create the Presentation:
Use a tool of your choice to create a 5-minute visual presentation with your voice recorded as audio content. It should be clear, concise, and engaging.
Submit Your Work:
Upload your presentation file or link and reference list in APA format to the Assessment 1 Dropbox. Include audio excerpts from your mentor conversation and the completed Mentor Interview Data form.
