To do molecular biology studies of DNA, one must develop methods to extract it. The extraction of DNA can be very complicated because of the structural and chemical complexity of cells. Eukaryotic cells are composed of many different organelles that are suspended in a complex aqueous matrix of soluble and insoluble materials. Plant cells are more complicated because they are surrounded by a rigid cell wall. Molecular biologists need to break up the cells and extract the DNA from the nucleus where most of the cell's DNA is located. We will use the strawberries to isolate DNA.
1. Why use the fruit strawberry to isolate DNA?
2. What are the materials needed to isolate DNA?
3. What are the steps in isolating the DNA from strawberries?
Why were the ratios the similar in the first part but different in Part 2.
At another locus, sepia eyes are inherited as an autosomal (non sex linked) recessive. The presence of the white eye phenotype (x superscript w x superscript w in females, x superscript y in males) masks sepia phenotype, so regardless of the sepia ge..
The same domains and/or motifs are found in many proteins. In fact, a protein's tertiary structure is more conserved (stays the same or same over many generations) than its amino acid structure.
State the key products of the Kreb's Cycle and how various of each there are starting from 1 glucose molecule.
The DNA sequence of a codon in a gene was changed from AAT to AAC. This type of mutation is known a(n) as.
Explain the structure and function of cellular organelles. There exist several examples of the eukaryotic cells. Algae, Fungi, Plants, and animals are all composed of the eukaryotic cells. Some algae and fungi are unicellular organisms.
Determine which of these would synthesize the enzymes for Histidine synthesis
A student, who has not learned properly how to prepare solutions, added 25.7 g of sucrose to exactly 150.0 mL of dH2O and assumed that a 0.5 M solution had been prepared. The total solution volume increased to 168.0 ml after sucrose was dissolved and..
A patient lost a lot of blood during surgery and his blood pressure dropped from 120/80 to 90/50. Describe how the kidneys respond to this change in blood pressure.
Means of transport would most probable be used for moving a medium-sized molecule (like a monosaccharide or an amino acid) from a low concentration on the outside of a cell to a high concentration on the inside of a cell.
define how the rate of many enzyme catalyzed reactions varies with pH. What types of amino acids must be at the active site of an enzyme if its rate decreases at high pH.
Why is the immune system so highly conserved, as other physiological systems are more specially adapted to our mammalian ancestry or hominid roots.
