Case study: As the nurse manager at a community hospital give a mission statement that embraces diversity in an inclusive workplace, you encounter this situation:

Rachel Goldberg, the lab tech assigned too your floor, asks to speak with you concerning an urgent matter. Rachel reports that while drawing blood on Mrs. Silverstein, a post operative cholecystectomy patient, had surgery earlier. The patient commented that her nurse refuses to give her any pain medication. When the technician went to the nursing station to find Mrs. Silverstein's medication nurse and to report the incident. She overheard the med nurse, Margaret Schwartz, a Lutheran nurse of German heritage, comment to a fellow nurse, "Mrs. Silverstein is just a Jewish princess who complains about pain all the time." I'm going to make her wait another half hour before I give her any medicine." Rachel exchanges angry words with Margaret, then approaches you, the manager, to know what you intend to do about the "blatant anti-Semitism " on the unit.
