You are a SSW at an elementary school, and this year has been tough. Teachers are stressed and some have already said they are not coming back next year. The school climate is tough and you see staff losing their tempers frequently with students. You are feeling very overwhelmed with all of the referrals, particularly the more serious ones. There have been several students who have voiced suicidal ideation, and you feel that the admin is not supportive as they do not believe that these students, being this young, would actually kill themselves. You have requested some time on the upcoming PD days to provide some education to staff on mental health but admin says they already have the time planned. You are a SSW at a charter school and work with middle schoolers. You've always enjoyed this group as you like to support them through all the changes they go through and remember when you were a feisty middle schooler and needed someone to talk to! Some of the other students have been making fun of him and laughing at him, and others have been asking lots of questions as they don't fully understand. You are aware that the main instigator of the unkind comments, Ronald, is the superintendent's son, and they are devout Catholics. Desmond comes to your office this afternoon crying as the students, particularly Ronald, won't stop making comments even though staff have tried to get them to stop. Through his tears, he utters "I just wish I could kill myself. Then they would feel bad for what they're saying to me." What do you do?

You are a SSW working in the ABC District at the high school level for several years. You have a good relationship with the students, and they seem to tell you everything about their lives. Today, Leshawn, an 18-year-old senior, tells you she has been thinking about killing herself. She is behind in her schoolwork and is at risk of failing and not graduating. In addition, this week she broke up with her boyfriend of two years whom she was supposed to go to the prom with, and had a fight with her best friend. Her mom is a nurse, works the second shift, and she never sees her. Leshawn has reached out to her in the past to share her need to spend more time together and her mom told her she had to work overtime to keep their bills paid in addition to all the extra expenses Leshawn has this year being a senior.
