Question: Cybercrime is a high priority in law enforcement today, mainly because of its connection with terrorist activities and concerns about computer intrusions relative to the political process. These topics seem removed from any discussion of psychological concepts at present, and, likely, we would only speculate about the characteristics of those responsible for this type of cybercrime. We will focus more on individual cybercrime, such as cyberbullying and cyberstalking, particularly their intimidation and effects on victims. These effects parallel but are also different from the effects of traditional or offline bullying and stalking because the offenders are anonymous and may or may not, in actuality, be personally known to the victim. Based on your understanding of cyber-crime, what are some of the justifications for committing this type of crime? What are some possible ways to deal with increasing cyber-crimes (i.e. should the internet remain anonymous?)? How does internet anonymity encourage cyber-crimes?
