"A healthy city is one that is continually creating and improving those physical and social environments and expanding those community resources which enable people to mutually support each other in performing all the functions of life and developing to their maximum potential." (WHO, 1998).

Reflecting on a settings approach, the Healthy Cities agenda and sustainable development, respond to the following questions with reference to the readings concepts:

1. How important is it to join up the 'health' agenda with the sustainable development agenda and why?
2. What are key characteristics of a 'healthy city' and how well does your closest city fare against them?
3. How can cities be made more supportive of the ecosystem and human health?
4. What are the benefits of a healthy settings approach compared to health promotion strategies that target individuals only?
