Smoking and Alcohol Use

This week in Seminar, you will cover the model of health promotion and disease prevention. You also will look at the two addictions of alcohol and smoking, and learn ways to treat the addiction.

1. Why is it important to follow a model to explain and treat substance use? What is the risk of not following a model?

2. What are factors that contribute to substance use?

3. Why are adolescents often targeted for substance use prevention programs? Is enough being done? What causes some adolescents to experiment with substances even after attending well-regarded prevention programs?

You will benefit most from completing Seminar Option 1. However, if you are unable to attend you have the opportunity to make up the points by listening to the Seminar archive and writing a paper summarizing the Seminar.
