Question: What is an emotion? Seriously. The question seems almost insulting - doesn't it? I mean, who doesn't know the answer to this question. We (me, you and everyone you know) has experienced an emotion - probably lots of them. Yet, despite having experienced an array of emotions throughout your entire life, MOST scientists are actually unclear about what an emotion is exactly.

It is probably NOT the same thing as a feeling, and it likely differs (at least some of the time) from a mood. Scientists aren't (would you believe) even in agreement about who can and who cannot experience emotions. Finally, there is still lots of consternation /debate about whether a human emotion is something that is innate (and therefore universal) versus learned. watch the following 40 minute cinematic lecture created for my colleague, LIsa Feldman Barrett.
