Introduction

Water is life as many researchers have proven. It is however a pity that most of the develop countries do not have enough water supply for their citizens. This paper will discuss some of water provision methods that could be applicable in developing countries. Developing countries are affected not because there are no sources of water in the country but because of lack of resources to implement these sources amicably (Goulden et al., 2009). This paper will use an example of Kenya which is a developing country and among countries which suffers from poor water supply.

Drilling of wells

Drilling of wells is a good way of ensuring water provision especially in arid and semi-arid areas. Wells are sources of water from the underground unlike other sources which rely of dams, rivers and lakes for supply. It is important for the government of Kenya to ensure that they drill as many wells as possible hence ensuring that there is enough water supply for people living in dry parts of the country especially during dry seasons. Those areas are mostly populated with pastoralists who do not rely on anything else other than animals for their survival. Animals too need water just like human beings. Therefore, in order to ensure that water is available for both humans and animals, the government of Kenya needs to invest a lot in wells for water supply.

Kenya is losing a lot by merely not enough ensuring water supply for its people living in arid and semi-arid area. If they had ample supply of water, they would diversify in their economic life in terms of growing crops instead of focusing a lot on cattle (Myers et al., 2012). The government would therefore not have much hassle when saving the lives of those people due to hunger especially during drought periods. Kenyan government is forced to buy food or even ask for relief food from USAID, UKAID among others in order to save on their people instead of looking for permanent water provision solutions for them.

Drilling of wells could also be a source of employment for the people living in the areas under such projects hence reducing the level of dependency level in the country. The government should therefore, invest in it knowing that the problem would be solved ones and for all. Drilling of wells would also be very economical for the government because there is little maintenance required for the wells. If anything, the people will be able to draw water for themselves without any help from the ministry of water. Therefore, unlike other methods of water supply, drilling of wells would be very economical for the government of Kenya in that it would be supplying water to its people through natural sources at a minimal cost possible after their construction is done. There will be an added advantage to the users during rainy season because the water supply will be more but during dry season they also have nothing to worry about due to availability of the wells. Therefore, the communities living in these areas are able to do more than pastoralism in order to sustain themselves (Pascal et al., 2013). By so doing, the economy of the country will improve greatly due to reduction on the dependency level in the country merely because of good water provision.

Construction of dams

It is important to note that in order to live a happy present and future life, you must learn how to save for tough days. This example will fit here in that by construction of dams, they will be able to collect enough water to sustain the whole country during and after dry season. Of course the dams will not be needed much during rainy season because people will be able to store their own water from the rain but it would not be the same during dry season.

By controlling water in the dams in order to ensure that all business that require water supply as well as citizens of the country get enough water, the government would be able to ensure proper provision of water.

At the moment, the Kenyan government has done that by installing pipes which supply water to different areas as per the ministry books (Myers et al., 2012). In order to ensure good maintenance of this water supply system, they charge the uses so as to ensure that they get clean water supply as per their standards.

This however, works for people in towns and those who have enough money to pay for such water supply. This means that the poor population which is the largest population in the country is either using dirty water or not having water at all as a normal human being should. The government is therefore not being fair by charging its people in order to get water while in actual sense water should be supplied for free as it is done in most countries including most developing and developed countries.

Plants

Scientifically, there are some plants that have been proven to absorb dirt in sewage leaving it clean for use. It is hard to believe that there is still hope to water that is passing through a sewerage or the sewage itself. Due to poor drainage systems in Kenya, most people have been seen using this water for business purposes putting their life at risk.

However, there is hope to this water only if plants could come together in order to ensure that they use natural methods such as these plants to clean water for the community and in return recycling the same water they have been using only that the waste is not dumped into some cite to cause more harm to the environment but have been put into use by plants which grow by simply consuming all the concoctions in sewages.

This method has been put in place in America among other counties and since there are many uses of water which should not be put into waste, the government of America has found it very viable in terms of recycling water as well as reducing on waste to be dumped into the environment (Goulden et al., 2009).

Proof of concept for this method is very important especially for countries which do not believe in science without proof of concept. However hard it will be for Kenya to accept this concept, it will be proficient for the country especially due to the fact that plants used in this case absorb the wastes in the sewage which otherwise would have polluted the environment amicably and in return destroying it or increasing global warming.

Conclusion

In conclusion, building of wells and dams in Kenya would be a good way to ensure ample water supply in the country. However, in order to ensure that water is provisioned amply within the country, the government has to ensure that the provision is fair and just to its people both the poor and the rich. By charging clean water, the poor which is the largest percentage of population in the country will suffer greatly but if the government takes the initiative of providing it the water will be equally supplied to all its citizens including those who live in arid and semi-arid areas.
