A criticalcomponent of the "Death Copter" is a solid, circular synchronizing shaft that is 4 inches in diameter and subjected to a bending moment of M = 120,000 in-lb. Unfortunately, a twisting moment, T of unknown magnitude was experienced by the shaft, causing it to permanently deform beyond allowable tolerances, malfunction, and the crew to learn that gravity is an ever-present force in their lives. Using this lovely imagery, determine the twisting moment, T that will cause the shaft to yield, according to (a) the Maximum shear Stress Theory and (b) the Distortion Energy Theory?
