Assessment: Reflection
Assessment: Reflection 1 (Learning Journal) Instructions - 750 words
The title of this written assignment is:"Using Levels of Analysis to Reflect on my Experiences of Studying and Learning."
The purpose of this assignment for 700051 - The Individual in Society - is for you to summarise the 'levels of analysis' framework and to reflect on how the ‘levels of analysis' can help you to understand an experience from your own life: how you study and learn. Remember, when we refer to ‘levels of analysis,' we mean the ‘bio-psycho-social model' for behaviour.
In this assignment you will need to refer to your studying and learning at The College. If you are just starting off, your experience of adjusting to college study would be relevant. If you are a more experienced student, you could refer to how your studying and learning has developed. The key here is to apply the levels of analysis framework to your college studying and learning.
This is a structured assignment with set headings and directions on what you should write under each heading.
Required Structure of Assessment 1: Reflection 1:
Levels of Analysis 40% - 300 Words (question 1: "Summary of the levels of analysis framework"):
In this section, you will provide a summary of the 'levels of analysis' framework used in psychology to view and understand human behaviour. This needs to include:
• An explanation of each ‘level of analysis': the biological level, psychological level, and environmental/social level (include a reference for this).
• An explanation of why the levels of analysis are used to help understand human behaviour (include a reference for this).
• Provide an example using the levels of analysis (e.g. your textbook uses an example of depression).
• Use the textbook, lectures and learning activities in tutorials to help you address this (reference the material that you paraphrase from the readings, lectures and tutorials).
• Use in-text citations for question 1 using the following required readings:
» Passer, Smith and Norris (2016) pp. 13-14; 25-27
» Lectures and tutorials from weeks 1-3. An example of how to cite lecture material is as follows:
This is where you discuss the connections you have made between the levels of analysis and with your own learning and studying. Reflect on how the levels of analysis helped you to understand your experiences of learning and studying. This needs to include:
• Choose what aspect of your learning to reflect on. For example, how do you manage your study time? Do you work on assessments more effectively alone or are you more motivated to work in a group with your peers? How do your sleep patterns effect your studying and learning? Do you use any learning strategies that help enhance your memory of course content? Etc.
• Directly refer to how the levels of analysis framework helped you to understand how you learn and study.
• Directly refer to how the levels of analysis framework helped you re-think how you learn and study (i.e. how they represent a ‘learning challenge').
• Your reflection must also be informed by the lecture content and the tutorial learning activities and required readings.
• Use in-text citations for question 2 using the following required readings:
- Passer, Smith and Norris (2016) Applying psychological science: how to enhance your academic performance. pp. 31-32. If you require any help locating this section in previous editions, please see your teacher.
