Assignment: The Styles of Leadership and the Role of a Team Leader

As a public service employee, you have been instructed, by your line-manager, to design a Staff Guidance Manual for new officer recruits for a selected public service. For the content of the manual, you must define a range of differing leadership styles that are used in the uniformed public services, along with recognising the roles and characteristics of a team leader. You must show within the content the functional effects that good and positive leadership; and team leader management, can have on public service operations.

Scenario 1
Jason has now been promoted within the navy ranks to Captain. He is in charge of 8 subordinates who he joined the navy with at the same time.

Task 1

You must produce a staff guidance manual based on Jason's case study.

This manual must include:

A minimum of 5 Leadership styles
A contents page for the whole manual
Describe the different types of leadership styles in the public services -
Identify the role of Jason as the team leader in public services
Include at least 4 or 5 roles and responsibilities
Compare the different leadership styles used in the public service so new officers put in leadership positions can understand their new roles better.

Using scenario 1 - Pick one leadership style that would be best suited for Jason in his new position. Research roles of a captain in the Navy and list them. Compare and evaluate which leadership style will be best suited for Jason and explain your choice in depth.
