Assignment Brief
In an attempt to make cost savings, the local Health Authority have recognised the need to merge, four existing G.P Practices that currently serve the population of several outlying villages.
As a result they have identified a redundant building that they currently own that sits within the grounds of a specialist rehabilitation and physiotherapist unit. It is hoped that this merger into one centralised Health Centre will benefit patients offering additional services such as day surgery and a pharmacy along with ease of access and parking.
This Grade Two listed one storey building was constructed circa 1910 and as such is constructed from traditional materials and building techniques of the time with a floor area 750 square metres.
Your architectural practice has the contract for this project. With a budget of £400k. The Health Authority are looking for a sympathetic and aesthetically pleasing design that meets their needs and is fit for purpose.
Your brief is to consider and interpret the clients brief whilst meeting the necessary design and legislative aspects of such a project.
Task 1 (P6,P7,P10,M3,D1)
• In this task you are asked to analyse the refurbishment process and range of refurbishment stages in relation to the clients brief. Consideration should be given to the options available, degree of intervention and the various aspects of Renovation, refurbishment and retrofit that may apply.(P6&M3)
• Discuss the necessary planning application and building control regulations that will need to be satisfied for such a project. Along with producing the appropriate and required Planning/building control documentation.(P7&P10)
• In addition you need to evaluate the effect of such a project in relation to the socio economic impact, environmental, time and cost.(D1)
Task 2 LO4
- Interpret the given scenario and produce detailed WORKING drawings (floor plans and elevations) for the proposed project(P8&M4)
- Produce an outline specification and budget cost for the development.(P9)
- Justify your design proposal highlighting how this will address issues with regards to obsolete buildings(D2)
