Assignment Instructions:
1. Select and Schedule an Interview

• Identify an RN nurse leader/manager in a healthcare organization who supervises nursing staff and is willing to participate in the interview. Ideally, this should be the same individual identified in your Unit 1 Check-In. If you are in a leadership role, choose an interviewee at your level or higher.
• Arrange to conduct the interview in person, virtually, or by phone.
• Collect background information on the interviewee's academic and professional history, as well as details about their healthcare organization.
2. Interview Questions for Background Information:
• Organizational Role and Hierarchy: "Could you describe your current role and where it fits within the organizational structure?"
• Services Offered by the Organization: "What types of services does your organization provide? For example, does it mainly focus on outpatient, inpatient, or a mix of services?"
• Type of Healthcare Facility: "How would you classify your organization? Would you describe it as a community hospital, a research institution, or private practice?"
• Patient Population and Volume: "What is the common demographic of the patient including ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural norms? Approximately how many patients does your unit, and the organization as a whole serve annually?"
3. To prepare for your interview, develop a set of thoughtful, open-ended questions that address the following topics. Encourage the interviewee to provide specific examples to illustrate their responses:
• Leadership and management styles they use in daily operations.
• Strategies they employ for decision-making during challenging situations.
• The significance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the workplace and how it is fostered.
• Common legal or ethical challenges they encounter in their role as a nurse leader.
• Their role in strategic planning at both the unit level and the organizational level.
• Methods they use to promote and maintain a healthy work environment.
4. Presentation and Feedback
• During the interview, present your Unit 4 Strategic Leadership Brief Infographic Presentation to the nurse leader and request their feedback on the following areas:
1. SWOT Analysis: Suggestions for refining your findings, including any areas for improvement or change.
2. Implementation Recommendations: Feedback on your proposed changes and strategies for putting them into practice.
3. Barriers and Solutions: Insights on potential challenges to implementation and strategies for overcoming them.

5. Reflect on the Interview
1. Discuss how the feedback received influenced your understanding and its implications for your nursing practice. Address:
• How the feedback refined or improved your understanding of the SWOT analysis and recommendations, including specific suggestions for improvement.
• Insights gained regarding leadership practices, patient advocacy, and ethical responsibilities, and how the nurse leader's approach compares to your own.
• Strategies or recommendations provided for implementing the proposed changes and their potential impact on patient safety, quality of care, and staff well-being.
• How presenting your infographic influenced your understanding and strategic approach.
• Whether the feedback validated or challenged your initial analysis and how it will shape your leadership practice.
