Case Study

Donna is a new care provider with the Health Authority Home Care. She is having difficulty understanding why it is important to promote independence of the client. She says "if I am being paid to do something why shouldn't I do it all? I have doing half of a job. And makes me feel good to let the client relax and while while I do the work." And finally I want to be able to show the client that I know what I am doing.

What would you say to Donna to help her understand the goal of home care?

Grant is a home care client that you have visited three times. He had always managed his home without assistance until he had a hip replacement. As you were instructed to do, you have cleaned the bathtub toilet and floor but not the sink and the mirror. He disagrees with you assisting rather than doing all of a certain assigned task.
