Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for Pre-registration Nursing
Procedure and template for RPL for admission - level 7
The following questions can be used to help identify and reflect on relevant learning experiences:
What major events have you undertaken in your practice experiences?
What are your thoughts and feelings about these events, now and at the time you did them?
What new skills have you developed as a result of these events? Have you transferred this learning to other situations such as the workplace?
What new learning has taken place as a result of the experience?
What reading have you done? Which articles or books have you read that support your learning?
Role of the Applicant
Your role is to reflect on the experiences that may form part of the claim, collect evidence if required and submit the completed claim.
In preparing the claim, you should bear in mind that the claim will be assessed against the following criteria
Valid, i.e. that it matches the programme learning outcomes/NMC proficiencies against the claim is being made
Sufficient, i.e. the amount and level of evidence matches the outcomes against which the claim is being made
Authentic, i.e. it relates to the applicants own work and should be able to be verified as such
Current, i.e. it is not out of date. Usually evidence needs to be within the last 5 years
Those NMC proficiencies highlighted in red are proficiencies that you must evidence in your RPL portfolio. Please DO NOT include the name of any service users or places of work in your reflective accounts.
