A 70-year-old patient who has cancer of the lung has undergone a thoracentesis withremoval of 750 mL of pleural ?uid to relieve his shortness of breath. Soon after theprocedure is completed, the patient reports that his shortness of breath has increasedrather than decreased. Based on your knowledge of risks associated with thoracentesis,what assessment data would you obtain from this patient and report to the physician?What additional nursing measures are warranted for the patient at this time?
