Ms. R. is a 29-year-old female patient who presents to the clinic for a follow-up on her urinary symptoms. Symptoms include burning and pain during urination, urgency, and frequency. Increasing fluid intake and taking cranberry supplements did not help improve symptoms. Urinalysis was positive for leukocyte esterase and nitrite. Urine culture shows more than 105CFU/mL of a single organism. She is sexually active and denies any past medical history.

1. Discuss the common pathogens that can cause uncomplicated community-acquired urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women.

2. What are the indications for the use of antimicrobial therapy in the treatment of UTIs?
