Oncogenes Oncogenes are cancer-causing mutant alleles. Normally a proto-oncogene will perform a role in signal transduction which is needed for normal cell proliferation. However, proto-oncogenes can be mutated into oncogenes. All of these mutations have some type of gain-of-function dominant effect. The book lists three, but are there any more examples that illustrate the points above? Explain them in detail.
