To understand cultural competence, you must understand that culture is not human nature but behaviors that align with one's beliefs. The health care field must adapt to the differences in beliefs by understanding a group's culture. They need to understand the epidemiology of the disease or disorder of the group and use this information when giving options for their patients to decide what course of action is best for their situation.

1. Describe a time when you or someone you know felt pressured to make a health care decision you may not a have agreed with. Why did you not agree with this decision? If you feel stuck, google a case study, and explain how you feel about that situation.

2. Why do you think there is such a discrepancy in health care decisions for different cultures? What are some ideas in how we can improve this disconnect? Feel free to use examples from the text and expand on your thoughts about their ideas and how they may or may not work.
