After certain kinds of brain lesions, some patients report an inability to see objects, but if questioned as to their location, they display a capacity to point at them with reasonable accuracy. This phenomenon is called "blindsight" and is one of a number of lines of evidence suggesting that being aware of doing something is distinguishable from doing something. Scientific evidence suggests different neural processes underlie seeing stimuli and responding to stimuli when they aren't "seen". This dissociation has a number of implications and provides evidence for the existence of an "unconscious" contributor to human behavior. Discuss your thoughts about blindsight and whether there is a role for the "unconscious" in behavior. Are there any positive or negative implications for it?
