A garden hose is open at one end and capped closed at the other. A swimmer in an above-ground pool fills the hose with pool water, then throws the capped end out of the pool. The open end of the hose sits at the bottom of the pool, and the capped end sits on the ground just outside the pool and level to the bottom of it. The external pressure is 1 atm. The water in the pool is 2.5 feet deep, and the rim of the pool is 3.5 feet above the ground. What is the water pressure in the capped end of the hose? What is the water pressure at the maximum height of the hose? You can assume that there are no air bubbles in the hose. (Hint: The correct answers are not 1 atm.)
