Question

The implementation of standards-based assessments has affected teachers' roles in their classroom. The standards guide the scope and sequence of instructional practices and the assessments to measure student learning and mastery. Before standard- based assessments teachers had more freedom to pick and choose what they thought was important for their students to learn and how they would assess the students. Now with standardized assessments, it is universal based on state standards. Teachers are looking at assessments and what standards are covered in the assessment and then teaching to those standards. Some people feel this is teaching to the test and do not agree with it, however, with the stakes so high on these assessments do you believe this is what they must do to ensure both their success and the success of their students?
