Consider a steam power plant with reheat that operates on a modified Rankine cycle. Steam enters the high-pressure turbine at a pressure of 8 MPa and a temperature of 450 °C (State 1). The steam is expanded in the high-pressure turbine to a pressure of 1.6 MPa (State 2) and is then reheated to a temperature of 400 °C before entering the low-pressure turbine (State 3). The steam is expanded in the low-pressure turbine to a pressure of 4 kPa (State 4). Both turbines and the pump are adiabatic and internally reversible. The heat transfer in the condenser, the boiler, and the reheater take place at constant pressure. The water leaves the condenser as saturated liquid.
(a) Complete the table below.
(b) Determine the net specific work output of the cycle, in kJ/kg.
(c) Calculate the specific heat transfer into the cycle, in kJ/kg.
(d) Find the thermal efficiency of the cycle.
(e) Sketch the cycle on a T-s diagram. Label all points and processes.
