In Florida, we often refer to the "open meetings" rules as the Florida Sunshine Law. Literally, we try to "let in" the sunshine and make government transparent for all to see. For everyone who lives here we know that all public entities have to conduct meetings "in the open" and make their agendas public.

For instance, two county commissioners cannot even have a conversation about any public matter without the conversation being in an official meeting, where the public has been invited, and minutes are taken. (Many of the case studies you will be working on very well might involve a violation of these rules.)

This publication by the Florida Commission on Ethics is a very useful tool for understanding how this Constitutional Amendment and the Code of Ethics impacts public entities and employees.

Also, just so you are thinking about this, since we are assuming our Case Studies that you are working on, are taking place in Florida, the Florida Sunshine Amendment will be applicable in many of your cases.

This amendment very well might be a great research tool. The Code of Ethics for Officers and Employees might be a great resource as well. Just something to keep in mind as you are working on your individual Case Studies.

For this assignment, I would like for you to list and then explain 10 items of interest you found in this document. (The Guide to the Sunshine Amendment and Code of Ethics ) (Why not kill two birds with one stone, so to speak, and look for things that might be applicable for your Case Study.)
