Suppose that during development of the brain, neurons in region A and B first form and then, somewhat later, they start to grow axons (“Axons” are another word for “nerve fibers” which are the part of nerve cells that connect one part of the nervous system to another; we will talk more about that in a few weeks).  The axons of region A grow toward  region, X, where they make contact with the cells there, and those of B grow toward Y. Suppose that very soon after their formation and before they start to grow axons, some of the neurons of regions A and B are exchanged with each other. Toward which region  will the axons of the A cells that are now in region B probably grow?

a. region X

b. region Y
