The social worker intervention I have witnessed is public welfare. I believe public welfare is paramount, especially the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Medical Assistance (MA). Being A financial caseworker taught me a lot about the disparity that exists in our society. Without these programs, a lot of children would have been malnourished and maybe even abandoned. However, the majority of the client that seek help are in dire need. The standard cash assistance for a household with no income is $1091, which is $545 in cash and $381 in food. So, imagine. Pay rent and feed your child with just $1091; sure, there are food shelf/food pantries; however, they can only receive food from the food shelf/food pantries. Or where the client, as one of the clients put it little too rich to be eligible for assistance but too poor to pay rent and feed her children. We once had a distressed client. Said he cannot go back to his children empty-handed, we have to call COPE (Community Outreach for Psychiatric Emergencies); this is just one of the many interventions that I have witnessed in the public welfare.
