A 70-year-old female patient has dementia and as a result of a recent stroke is paralyzed on her left side. She does not respond to verbal commands or pain. She is incontinent of stool and has a Foley catheter. She now has a pressure ulcer on her coccyx that measures 3 × 3 cm. What are the important principles to know regarding this patient's care?
