Response to this post:
1. Mrs. Mallard and Woman have really great supporter around them. Mrs. Mallard has Josephine and Richard. Woman has her husband. Both of them have similar background condition. They are in marriage; both stories " Story of an Hour and A Sorrowful Woman" are focused on the major event (freedom) during their marriage. On the other hand, they focus on different topic. "Story of an Hour" focuses on ambiguous feeling between feeling of released from prison called marriage and despair from hearing her husband is dead. "Sorrowful Woman" focuses on more about the conflict between her families (son and husband) and her own freedom.
2. I want to encourage Woman more than the Mrs. Mallard, because she has to go back to her busy life at the end after long rest. Even though, the Mrs.Mallard has passed away at the end of story, she is released from her prison. However, Woman's conflict is continuous.
3. "Story of an Hour" want to make us think that whether Mrs. Mallard got really freed at the end or not. I really think the ending
can be analyzed with different response. However, I think what the author really wanted to tell us is that ambiguousness can be
resolved depends on what perspective view we have on and it is very changeable.
"A Sorrowful Woman" question us that whether working for the family interrupts the private freedom or not. Woman might look
like childish for just wanting her own freedom than tacking care of her family unlike her husband. However, it is also true that she
is suffering from housework and need rest (want to do something she really wants other than mandatory).
4. I enjoyed "A Sorrowful Woman" more. I like how the author compared Woman and children. Author said, "Very sedately she
left her bed and went to the Child's room" (Godwin 41). This quote shows that Woman goes back to her children life. Which
foreshadows that she is going to live in a freedom ( act like children).
