For this task you will be required to identify and implement at least one environmentally sustainable work practice either in your workplace or classroom, and monitor the performance of the work activity over a minimum period of one week.
To effectively implement and monitor an environmentally sustainable work practice, you will need to ensure that the following steps:
1. Identify and document all possible areas for improvement in environmental and sustainability practices.
2. Complete the following steps to investigate the current workplace practices:
a. Identify and analyse all relevant current information, advice, tools and resources from a range of internal and external sources to identify the relevant procedures, practices and compliance requirements for environmental and resource sustainability, including, but not limited to:
i. Applicable environmental regulations and legislation.
ii. Current workplace procedures for assessing environmental and sustainably compliance, as well possible replacement procedures.
iii. Environmental and resources proficiency systems, including those already in use and other possibilities.
iv. Current work processes to access information and data to assist in identifying areas for improvement.
v. Current relevant purchasing strategies.
b. Plan and organise a work group activity to conduct an audit (practical or desktop) to measure current resource use.
3. Consult with relevant stakeholders, key personnel and specialists to seek their input on generating and implementing sustainability improvements, and for setting targets.
4. With the work group, identify and evaluate ideas for improvements and solutions to workplace environmental and sustainability problems and issues through change management processes, including resource usage.
5. Set appropriate efficiency targets. Provide a list of efficiency targets.
6. Identify and use tools and techniques appropriate for achieving the identified efficiency targets.
7. Develop and apply continuous improvement strategies, ideas and possible solutions to own work area of responsibility, and report as required.
8. With the work group, evaluate and implement environmental and resource efficiency improvement plans and strategies to improve resource usage.
9. Implement costing strategies.
10. Develop/source and use appropriate tools and technology to evaluate and monitor implemented practices.
11. Document all outcomes and report as required.
12. Plan and organise a work group activity to evaluate the implemented strategies and improvement plans.
13. At the end of the identified monitoring period, set new achievable efficiency targets.
14. Investigate any new relevant tools and strategies.
15. Promote successful strategies to the work group.
Once you have completed your implementation and monitoring of environmentally sustainable work practices, you will need to sit down with your trainer and discuss the following:
16. Activities conducted to meet environmental requirements.
17. The internal and external sources of information gathered.
18. How the sources of information were used to identify sustainability improvements.
19. The environmental and resource compliance requirements of the work area, including the relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice and workplace procedures.
