When the body does not secrete lactase enzyme in the intestine, the lactose sugar is not digested. Bacteria that are a normal part of the large intestine use lactose as food and rpoduce gas. How does this contribute to the symptoms of lactose intolerance? Also, why do areas with good climate for crops generally have a high incidence of lactose intolerance?
