SPPA2001 Intervention in Speech Pathology
ASSIGNMENT – Written clinical management plan
Procedure:
You are required to use the case information and data provided in order to plan management (“treatment”) for your client. This assignment has 2 sections – a management plan section and a session plan.
You will be the student speech pathologist working with Joe weekly for a 10 week school term (45 minute individual sessions). For this assignment you should refer to the 2019 clinical writing package as a guide. Remember though, that this is an academic assignment - read the information and marking rubric provided here carefully.
The 10 page limit is for the entire assignment and so includes BOTH sections which are submitted as ONE document:
OVERVIEW OF Part 1 (the management plan section)
Provide the overall plan and rationale for the ten week therapy treatment period. It should follow the suggested structure mapped out for you in the checklist on the next page.
OVERVIEW Part 2 (the session plan section)
This section of your assignment should be for the first therapy session plan linked to the management section above. Make sure that your session plan is clearly linked to the rationale in your management plan in part 1.
The following is provided as a checklist to ensure you include all relevant information.
For this assignment, your management plan should follow this structure:
Begin with a summary of the child’s communication profile based on your interpretation of the data and background information
Discuss your theoretical interpretation of the data which informs your selection of the goals and therapy approach(es) (in other words, linking your planned intervention to the individual case through theory)
Contain clear management/intervention goals: your long term broad goals and treatment period SMART goals which should be clearly linked to the case data
Discuss the therapy approaches or programmes you have selected, and broadly how learning will be facilitated: i.e. the use of techniques/procedures such as explicit teaching, cueing, recasting, scaffolding, increase/decrease steps
Discuss the evidence base and effectiveness/efficacy research behind the selected therapy approach(es)
Address measurement issues - describe and provide information on methods of recording outcomes and progress (you may include sample recording sheets, checklists, perceptual rating scales etc. in an appendix outside of the page count if this clarifies your planning – but this will not be marked).
Outline and discuss appropriate methods of analysis you plan to use to measure progress and evaluate effectiveness using the data you plan to collect.
