One of the greatest strategies to obtain individual donations is special events. I want to talk a little more about special events because this is a fundraising strategy that my organization relies on heavily. Fundraisers such as dinners, golf outings, and auctions, are common revenue sources for nonprofit organization. Special events fall into the revenue category of "private giving" because funds raised through these events generally come through individuals and corporations (and not from the government or foundations). One of the course objectives for this week is to evaluate funding options for nonprofit organizations. Let's consider the pros and cons of special events. Clearly, there are many benefits to holding special events including volunteer involvement and unrestricted donations that are raised through the event.
