Bicycle wheel A bicycle wheel (a hoop) of mass M and radius a is fitted with a smooth spindle lying along its symmetry axis. The wheel is spun with the spindle horizontal, and the spindle is then made to turn with angular speed Ω about a fixed vertical axis through the centre of the wheel.
