Question: An 80°F organic liquid (ρ = 52 lbm/ft3, μ = 3.4 cP) is pumped from an open vessel to a pressurized storage tank as shown in the sketch. The difference in liquid levels between the two tanks is 60 ft The pipe is 3-inch Schedule 40 steel and the sum of all straight lengths of pipe is 400 ft. The liquid is pumped at a rate of 20,000 lbm/hr.

a. Show the equivalent length of the piping system is 485 feet. (You may assume entrance to pressure tank does not contribute.)

b. Show how to find the friction factor.

c. If the pump has an efficiency of 65%, what is the minimum horsepower required for tbe pump
