ONLINE "DEBATE" - PUBLIC HEALTH ETHICS AND DRUG TESTING AT MUSIC FESTIVALS
Should pill testing be used at Australian music festivals? - what are the ethical issues?
This week covers the topic of drug testing which also raises issues of public health ethics. Additional readings have been provided in the Unit Readings for Week 9 to provide background (but you should also search for recent information). To make an argument that is unique from your peers you may need to read further than provided readings.
Hints for this week
Read the instructions carefully - it is about making an informed point about ONE (1) ethics issue
Be clear it is an ethics issue - use a reference to support this
Read the rubric carefully (you should be familiar with this by now)
Ask if you don't understand any previous feedback, see notes provided on assessment (powerpoint)
Draft your post, look at rubric and consider how well you have completed the activity.
Clearly reference - for example you might consider something is an ethics issue we don't - but if you support your point with strong sources/references about it being an ethics issue that will help your case Hire best assignment help service online!
Engage thoughtfully and constructively with the posts of your peers
Should pill testing be used at festivals? What are the ethics issues related to this (for this you look at one ethics issue)?
You are required to research this topic and consider the ethics issues based on the literature. Consider the size of the public health problem and evidence to support pill testing at festivals.
Make ONE (1) original post arguing ONE ethical issue (make sure it is clearly an ethics issue) to the forum discussion (debate) as a NEW thread. In the interests of everyone being able to post an original idea, please limit your original post to focus on ONE key point only i.e. don't ‘hog' the conversation. Before posting, check that your ethical argument has not already been discussed in detail by someone else in your forum or that you have a very different perspective. Cite your sources using Vancouver style as recommended by UWA. Your original post should consist of no more than 300 words. Original post must be made by the Saturday of the debate.
In addition to posting ONE original ethical argument, you must also REPLY to two other posts in your forum (so at least two); ideally you should provide some evidence to further support their point or to provide a counter-argument, rather than a simple "I agree" or "I like your post and I found" type statements. So that the overall discussion might cover a wide range of ethical perspectives, consider posting a counter-argument as your original post. That is, if the majority of posts are ethical arguments "for", consider posting an ethical argument "against" (if this is not your personal view and you would like to say so, you may note this in your post).
