The California State Children Services (SCS) regulates the treatment of Medicaid children aged birth to 21 years who experience disabilities resulting from congenital anomalies or severe debilitating injury. SCS certification is vital to the operation of the burn center as SCS patients represented 74% of the pediatric inpatient burn volume and 26% of pediatric outpatient visits in 2000.
