Service Learning Evaluation
The Module II assignment provides an opportunity for you to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate (create) readings, videos, and your experiences in your Service Learning classroom. The paper will also contain personal reflections.
This assignment has several parts. To receive full credit, you must completely address each section based on material from the Module II required readings and required videos. I am expecting three- to five-pages, well-written (flows well and error-free), and double-spaced paper in APA formatting throughout. You need to include citations and you must follow APA protocol for both in-text citations and references. (Be sure to include and title and reference page in APA formatting
Part 1
As a teacher you will have many opportunities to evaluate curriculum. Your teaching contract will require you to present the Utah Core Standards to a wide-variety of learners. This assignment you will examine Utah State Core Curriculum Standards through a multicultural lens. Core Standards can be found here (https://www.uen.org/core/).. Respond to the following
- You will teach a wide-variety of content (language arts, math, science, etc.) in your future classroom. In which content do you feel multicultural concepts best fit? Why?
- Provide a detailed example for curriculum at the grade level you plan to teach. Refer to the module readings for curriculum examples.
- What steps will you take to make the curriculum culturally relevant or sustaining?
Part 2
Historically, education has disenfranchised marginalized groups of people. Address the following using course readings and materials (remember to cite course material throughout!)
- What was has the education system contributed or continue to contribute to disparities in societal outcomes?
- Do you believe that multicultural approaches to education can support a more diverse classroom and the success of all students?
- How do you plan to include the voices of those who are not commonly heard in typical K-12 standards based curriculum? (Marginalized voices)
- How do you plan to create a more equitable classroom to address equity within society as well?
- Reflect on your honest opinions about asset based approaches to education and their effect on education, particularly in light of the Common Core State Standards.
Part 3
Based on course material address one of the following;
- What are the key characteristics of multicultural curriculum? List and explain at least seven.
The parts of this paper do not need to be addressed in chronological order within your writing. (For example, it may make sense to write about characteristics of multicultural education, as you address your plan for an equitable classroom.)
Begin with a clear introduction, paragraphs that respond to each point, and a concluding paragraph that pulls your work together. Write one introduction and conclusion and address both parts within the body of your writing. In all you MUST include;
- At least 3 full pages of writing
