Scenario Two: Chris is a high school student who is self-conscious about his body - he feels that he is too skinny, and he lacks muscle definition. Because appearing fit and attractive to others is important to him, he self-esteem is not as strong as he would like it to be. In conversation with his friend Deron, Chris learns that Deron regularly works out at the local fitness club in town. Chris views his friends as fit and recognizes that Deron has a very positive self-esteem. Chris decides to obtain a trial membership at the club and asks Deon, and he extends his membership to a full year. The physical results of his efforts begin to show, as evidenced by increased muscle size, muscle definition, and weight gain. Perhaps most important, Chris develops a strong sense of pride in his physical fitness and appearance, and his self-esteem improves dramatically.
