A simple equation to relate the scale size of the universe today to the scale size of the universe at a previous time in the history of the universe is 1 + z = atoday/athen where athen is the scale size at the time in the past, atoday = 1 is the assumed scale size today, and z is the redshift. Using the redshift value of 1100 for a time just after the big bang when the universe was a hot gas, how many times has the universe since expanded?
