Question: Healthcare professionals or any employees, in general, will be motivated and willing to work if they feel they are effective at their jobs and performing well. That being said, factors that can and may be effective to bring out the motivation include but are not limited to money/ bonus, flexible work schedules, and opportunity for promotions. As we all know, bonuses in the form of money will always continue to be a motivator, although, it is not as important for everyone. But isn't that why everyone's working, to make money for a living? Another one is flexible working schedules. This motivational reward is valued by everyone, especially those parents with younger kids or with family for that matter. Of course, aside from working long hours, they would want to go home and relax and have fun with their families. The last strategy that I would want to try is to tell my team about an opportunity for promotions or "career ladders". Many progressive nursing and allied health departments are doing this today with good results.
These strategies have worked if in a few weeks there are reports of increased patient satisfaction and the quality of care had gone up.
